friday night date

so, a few weekends ago, mark & i decided to go on a fun, definitely romantic "date"...okay, so we took the kids, and it was a "date" in the most looooose sense of the word...and we went to Costco. i know, we are lame. and we are "creative" and "imaginative." my favorite part was that we tried really hard to not purchase items that were not on our list...but, inevitably, we ended up with a tray of sushi (for the pregnant momma, of course), extra snacks (for me again...okay, i'll share with the kids :), and a book or two. bummer. better luck next time so we can stick to the list!

anyway, i had mark snap a few pics of me & the kids riding down the isles on our shopping cart. it was pretty fun and liberating.

fun story: so after we were done shopping, we had to end the "date" with a treat, so off we went to buy ice cream sundaes. we were able to snag a table and we happened to be sitting next to a group of 4 guys who we found out were all filipino. mark struck up a conversation with them and soon, we noticed that one of the men was wearing a hat with a salt lake city logo on it. so, we asked this guy if he had ever been to slc. he said he was working down there a year ago, but that now he and a few of his filipino buddies moved up to alberta along with their families. we asked him if he had liked utah and he said that he did...but, he said the winter was too cold for him...okay...hold the phone!!! it was "too cold?" apparently, alberta winters are either a walk in the park or just about as cold as the winters in utah. i beg to differ, of course. moving on...mark proceeded to ask him about the kind of work that he and his buddies were doing up in alberta. sooner or later, the topic of interest was our children, since they were so excitedly eating their ice cream sundaes and bouncing with a little too much energy for it being 8pm at night (blame the sugar). the one guy told us that he and his wife are looking forward to having kids, but that it was taking a little longer than they had hoped for. he said this while smiling and with an optimistic and hopeful tone in his voice. it was sincere. he took another glance at our 3 little munchkins and then, he broke out with the most poignant statement of the evening..."but, i can see that you have no problem with that!" this statement was followed by a nice, hearty laugh, shared by all at the table and by both mark & I who were the only ones there that knew i was pregnant again. little did he know how spot-on his remark was... :)

I am fascinated by the concept of fitting 2 kids in the front seat of that cart. It looks like it's made that way, too... Are carts there wider than the carts in the U.S.?
